5th and 6th Grade

Cost: $40.00

Hadley Middle School Speech Squad

5th & 6th grade

Speech Squad is a GREAT place for you, if you like to act and speak in front of others! It’s also a great way to meet other students who like to do that same thing! We do compete, as a sport, but there is only one competition, where there are awards and scores given. Teams are formed in groups of Duets and up to groups of 4 or 5. They can be formed and chosen before the first meeting.

We will rehearse on most Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:20-3:40pm. Final schedule is TBD. All members of the Speech Squad are required to fully memorize their script/staging prior to competing at the IESA Regional Contest! There are no props used for the contest, so attention to “acting” and sticking to timed performances are a must. Improv is strongly encouraged with each Duet Team….it is all a bunch of fun! So students can participate in two different competitions.

Students will choose their event, partner/group, and script at our first rehearsal in order to have plenty of time to memorize and perfect their performances (about 16 rehearsals). This provides plenty of time for rehearsing; memorizing; blocking and working with Coach Curry to make each selection succeed at the contest. IESA Regional Contest date will be determined at a later date, it is usually the first weekend in November).

Register now thru Sunday, September 7th. There is a $40.00 activity fee paid at time of registration. No registrations will be accepted after September 8th. The after school activity bus is available IF you select it when completing this form. NOTE - The activity buses do not start until September 10th.

Our first rehearsal will be Monday, September 8th and is mandatory attendance since partners & scripts will be chosen. Any student not in attendance on September 8th (as long as registered by 9/7/24)will be assigned a partner & script.

Questions? Please email Ms. Curry with any questions lcurry@homerschools.org

Schilling Singers 2025-26

****************************

Here at Schilling Elementary we have a BEFORE school choir called the Schilling Singers.  This is a great opportunity for students to get creative and be part of a music making team.  Not only does choir offer musical training, but the skills they gain through participation will also set them up for future success in many other areas of life.  Studies have shown that participating in choir can enhance your mental awareness, concentration, and memory, reduce anxiety and stress, as well as boost your immune system!

Schilling Singers is a club that will meet on select Thursdays from 7:50-8:50am.  We will participate in 3-4 performances for the student body and one parent performance throughout the school year.  Choir is open for all LJS students. We will work with any and all staff to make necessary rehearsal accommodations in order to provide a high-quality choral education for any student interested. Students will need to arrange their own transportation to LJS on Thursday mornings.  Our first rehearsal will be on Tuesday September 18th, 2025.

Please drop students off at the main entrance of the building.
